. As a precursor to the spy satellites that would follow, part of the mission was to test the capability to spy on enemy military installations and airstrips. Astronauts Gordon Cooper and Charles Conrad successfully filmed the flight of an US Air Force Minuteman missile (arrowed) launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. At the time, the Gemini V mission broke the record for the longest duration manned spaceflight, lasting 7 days, 22 hours and days and 55 minutes. This was also the first time the record was held by the USA. This clip is available with the missile highlighted with an arrow, as K006/0021.
